Advance HRA Course Overview

The course will cover strategies for diagnosis and management of difficult cases that are encountered in everyday practice but may be challenging. The course will include thematic blocks of lectures, panels and small group workshops. Case-based discussions will review problems such as inadequate examinations, recurrent and persistent disease, discerning perianal disease from dermatologic conditions as well as other common problems found during HRA. Attendees will have the opportunity to present difficult cases from their practice for discussion and review by faculty.  Sample topics: difficult external and internal exam, post anal cancer HRA, sex after ablation. 

Course Objectives

  • To improve recognition of different lesions in the anus and perianus

  • To improve skills in management of HSIL with the goal of improved treatment.
  • To improve understanding of relevant non-HPV related anal and perianal disease.
  • To provide updates in the field including epidemiology, HPV virology, and pathology    

Course Criteria


    • This advanced level course is designed to build on skills learned in the HRA basic course after applying the basic tools to clinical practice. 
    • The course is designed for providers who have taken a basic HRA course and who have completed at least 100 independent HRAs in clinical practice
